Remember how summer felt when you were a kid? A vast expanse of long days and warm weather, devoid of any buzz-killing responsibility. Cut to now. What does summer mean to you? An endless stretch of searing heat, blinding sun, rolling blackouts and traffic jams? Does the mere thought of the approaching season drive you headlong into a fantasy of chucking it all for a waterfront summer home far from the urban bustle?

The weather: I bet this didn’t even cross your mind did it?? Well it is very important as the coop must be comfortable to the chicken. So if you live in a cold area, then it is best to insulate the coop against the freezing draft, if you are in a hot place then the coop will need to provide for plenty of air circulation etc.

Some bridal houses design their collections to complement each other. That is, the house designs a collection of dresses in different styles that come in an array of up to 20 or more colors. The only decision you have to make is the color of the dress. Each bridesmaid will choose the cut of the dress: strapless, halter, jewel neckline, etc. Some designers even let your bridesmaids choose separates, for a better fit. (Separates are a skirt and a top, each of which fits some people better.) Your bridesmaids are in control, and probably more comfortable when they choose the design.

Once your patio is installed, it is time to personalize your space. Again consider your home’s overall feel. Rustic patio furniture will look out of place next to a home built with Victorian design house plans. Look for good quality furniture that is designed to stand up to the elements. Fabrics should be weather and fade resistant. This is especially important if you plan to leave your furniture outside year round. If you plan to store your furniture, make sure you have adequate storage space. Make sure the furniture you pick is comfortable. Add some plants or art. Mobiles and spinners add a sense of movement to the space. Wind chimes and water features can be soothing. You do not have to spend a lot of money to have a fun space that reflects your style.

More Rough-in. It’s now time to rough-in your air conditioning, electricity, insulation and plumbing. Now is your chance to make any special requests for location of sockets, installation of surround sound, or anything else your heart desires.

The exterior of the house is an important aspect in choosing. A great exterior would be attractive to most people, but likes in appearance can abruptly change. You can easily modify exterior features like windows, wall color, roof, and doors. Therefore, exterior appearance is second from the interior design of the house. What’s inside your home is important. The interior features should be checked carefully. Comfort should be prioritized, not only the design and furniture. You spend most of your time inside the house, than staying outside the house.

If you can climb a ladder safely, inspect the fascia board. If you cannot, have a professional inspect the gutter and fascia. If the fascia board is solid, simply add hidden hangers and raise the sagging area. Fasten with 1 1/2″ zip screws. If the fascia board is rotted, temporarily remove the gutter and remove the rotted fascia board as well. Once the fascia has been replaced, rehang or reinstall the gutter with proper pitch.

In the past, I would have designed a library off to the side in my dream home. No more. From now on, in any future home I might build for my family, the library remains the heart.

An outdoor playhouse is a magical experience for any child at certain ages. I certainly remember my own ‘uncle’, Mr Wood of all names, who built my outside den and I am still grateful to this day. I am 62! It was green, beautiful and had an upper floor balustrade. By the way, he was seventy-seven when he built it. It still sits in the backyard and nowadays is considered quite a feature.
